As anime fans still riding the highs of Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online, and Re:Zero, fall 2023 feels like another stacked season ready to dominate watchlists. From overpowered shadow masterminds to shield-bearing outcasts and grim goblin hunts, this lineup leans heavily into isekai and fantasy—genres that continue to redefine modern anime storytelling. Several second seasons and long-awaited continuations are arriving, and a handful of them look poised to deliver powerful conclusions.

Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! 2nd Season
Rating: 5 Stars
Basic Summary:
A man who long dreamed of becoming a hero wished to be transported to another world like the ones he read about. One day, he threw himself in front of a speeding car and died—only to awaken in a fantasy realm. Retaining memories of his previous life, he discovers he possesses overwhelming magical power.
Early on, he rescues several women from danger and fabricates a story about a secret cult threatening the world. Ironically, he later learns that this cult truly exists and is actively causing destruction. Realizing his organization has the power to stop them, he commits to ending their influence.
My Opinion:
Despite featuring an overwhelmingly powerful protagonist—a trait that often weakens tension—this anime delivers a compelling mystery. Who is behind the cult? Where are its members? How did the protagonist unintentionally build such a devoted following?
Interestingly, the series isn’t entirely centered on him. Even though he is surrounded by admirers, he remains uninterested in romance, avoiding awkward entanglements. Instead, the story focuses on the conflict between the cult and his loyal followers, creating an engaging and layered narrative.

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 3
Rating: 5 Stars
Basic Summary:
Four men are transported to a fantasy world and granted legendary weapons—a shield, sword, spear, and bow—earning them the title of heroes. However, the shield hero quickly becomes the target of the kingdom’s resentment.
He is falsely accused of a crime and cast out, forced to survive alone. Over time, through resilience and kindness, he slowly changes how others perceive him—but only after enduring relentless persecution from both the kingdom and his fellow heroes.
Despite betrayal and isolation, he remains determined to rebuild his life and help others.
My Opinion:
This series offers a refreshing twist on the isekai formula by placing the protagonist in a position of rejection rather than admiration. The survival-focused arcs are intense and suspenseful. Although strong, the protagonist is not the most powerful character, and his journey involves difficult moral choices and constant struggle.
If you plan to watch this season, be sure to complete the earlier ones first.

Goblin Slayer II
Rating: 5 Stars
Basic Summary:
In a world filled with dangerous creatures, goblins are considered the weakest. Yet their capacity for destruction is underestimated. The Goblin Slayer dedicates his life to hunting goblins, focusing exclusively on eliminating them and assisting others who share that mission.
My Opinion:
This anime carries a dark and gritty tone, featuring disturbing scenes involving goblins. Viewer discretion is strongly advised.
Beyond its intensity, the series excels in craftsmanship. It features multiple protagonists who experience meaningful growth. Unlike many overpowered heroes, these characters are vulnerable and face real danger, which adds tension and emotional weight to the story.

Sousou no Frieren
Rating: 4 Stars
Basic Summary:
After defeating the demon lord, an adventuring party promises to reunite in the future. The protagonist, an elf with a lifespan of centuries, eventually returns to her companions—only to find them aged or deceased. Now she must navigate a changing world while remaining physically unchanged.
My Opinion:
This anime explores long lifespans—an element rarely examined in depth. Most series conclude once the main villain is defeated, but this story focuses on what happens afterward. It offers a reflective look at time, loss, and mortality, and I believe it has the potential to become something truly remarkable.

Dead Mount Death Play 2nd Cour
Rating: 5 Stars
Basic Summary:
Before the hero defeats him, the death lord casts a reincarnation spell and is transported into the modern world. Now living in contemporary society, he retains his magic and seeks a quiet life while avoiding detection.
My Opinion:
This reverse isekai concept stands out immediately. The humor is well executed without relying on crude scenarios. The protagonist is powerful, but those pursuing him are just as formidable, maintaining balance and tension.
An added layer of intrigue comes from the mysterious assassination of the body he inhabits. That backstory ties directly into the overarching plot and keeps the narrative engaging.

Boushoku no Berserk
Rating: 3 Stars
Basic Summary:
In this world, each person has one unique ability. The protagonist’s ability is an insatiable hunger, initially seen as useless. However, he discovers that this hunger grants him extraordinary strength.
My Opinion:
The rule that each character possesses only one ability is compelling. However, the concept of absorbing power through consumption has been explored before. The anime’s visuals stand out, and the battle scenes appear promising. Overall, I expect it to be solid, though not necessarily exceptional.

Hametsu no Oukoku
Rating: 4 Stars
Basic Summary:
Witches and humans have long coexisted, but humans relentlessly attempt to eliminate them. Hidden witches now begin to resist. The central character, a witch, seeks revenge for the death of their mentor.
My Opinion:
This series blends modern elements—skyscrapers and cell phones—with magic and witches. The battle scenes in the trailer are striking, and the premise is intriguing. While it may not lean heavily into humor, it still looks promising.

Toaru Ossan no VRMMO Katsudouki
Rating: 4 Stars
Basic Summary:
A young boy enters a VR game and chooses a relaxed lifestyle focused on hunting, fishing, and cooking instead of adventure. Unexpectedly, this approach makes him one of the strongest players, eventually placing him at the top rank. Other players attempt to uncover his strategy.
My Opinion:
This anime brings to mind Sword Art Online, but with a lighter tone. The protagonist’s strength develops through experience in unexpected ways. While similar themes exist in other series, I’m hopeful this one will deliver strong visuals and storytelling.
